Underprepared and Overwhelmed: How Medicaid Cuts are Flooding Indiana Classrooms

A quiet disaster is brewing for Indiana's public schools, and our newest teachers are on the front lines. Due to aggressive state-level cuts to Medicaid reimbursements for Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA) therapy, hundreds of specialized centers are closing their doors. The devastating result? High-functioning neurodivergent children, who were once thriving in supportive environments, are now being forced into general education classrooms without the resources they, or their teachers, need to succeed.

Across the state, Special Education Directors are in an impossible position. They are being forced to triage, placing a sudden influx of students with complex needs into already strained schools.
