THEY’RE CELEBRATING SURPLUSES WHILE HOOSIER FAMILIES DISAPPEAR

INDIANA’S MISSING: WHERE DID THE DISABLED GO?

You see them on the news. Smiling. Shaking hands. Popping champagne corks over a budget surplus. They’re patting themselves on the back for being “fiscally responsible” and rooting out “waste.” But while they celebrate, thousands of Hoosier families are living a nightmare.

Imagine if one of those smiling politicians got a letter. A letter like the ones Indiana's Family and Social Services Administration (FSSA) sends to the most vulnerable people in our state. Imagine this landed on their desk:

Dear Congressional Member, We only have proof that you worked 56 hours this month. Which falls below the work requirements in Big Beautiful Bill for 80 Hours per Month for other Government funded programs. As we seek to root out real Fraud, Waste, and Abuse in government we request you provide evidence of additional hours worked or return the equivalent cost of your premiums for the month. Sincerely.

Sound absurd? They don’t punch a clock. They get premium government healthcare with no questions asked. Yet this is the reality they force on parents caring for profoundly disabled children. On adults who need an attendant just to get out of bed.

CUTS, WAITLISTS, AND EMPTY CHAIRS

While the statehouse celebrates returning money, here’s what’s happening in your neighborhood:

Home- and Community-Based Services (HCBS) are being gutted. These are the programs that keep disabled Hoosiers in their homes, with their families.
The waiting list for disability waivers is a black hole. Families wait YEARS for help that never comes.
Attendant care hours are being slashed. The few hours of help a family fought to get are cut, leaving caregivers exhausted, broke, and on the verge of collapse.

They call these "Important Adjustments." They say it’s about "program integrity." It’s a sham. They're balancing the budget on the backs of the disabled. They’ve made the paperwork impossible, the requirements unbearable, and then they act shocked when people get kicked off the rolls. They’ve created a system designed to fail the people who need it most.

So when you see them brag about a surplus, I want you to ask one simple, chilling question. The question they refuse to answer.

WHERE DID THE DISABLED HOOSIERS GO?

Did their needs just magically vanish? Did they end up in costly state-run institutions? Did they end up on the street? WHERE DID THEY GO? They didn't just disappear. They were disappeared. By a system that sees their care as "waste" and a politician's salary as an entitlement.
